The Crop Circle

The Paperclipping Community of Scrapbookers

Wow!  We had a great response to the March Challenge!!  Lets keep the excitement going this month.  As always, let us know if you have any questions.

So lets get started... remember your layout / project only needs to fall into one of these categories (but can of course fall into multiple if you wish), and it is best if you talk us through some of your creative choices. This way we get to see how you have used your design skills to create your own personal masterpiece. This helps all our other members learn from your expertise, and will also help you understand more about the way you scrapbook - which of course helps with your future projects.

Challenge Topic #1:  In Episode 166, Noell talks about how to use repetition in your scrapbooking to help unify a design while still creating variety.  I love the grid design for this design principle and was excited to work with this concept with the additional information I learned from the tutorial.  For this challenge topic, create a layout that utilizes the design principle of repetition.  In your write-up, please discuss what element of your layout is repeated and how you implemented this design principle.

Repetition of color.  Stitching and general design also inspired by Lisa Dickinson.

Challenge Topic #2:  In Episode 165, Noell talks about the use of white space on a layout and what space communicates.  Space can be used to link items together and also to provide definition and separation of items to allow the eye a chance to take in each element on its own.  Create a layout that uses white space to communicate your story.  Make sure to discuss your thought process and how you used space in your design.

From Suz:  "Creative Spirit" was designed to reflect Stephanie's personality... clean lines & the stark white space with clearly defined boxes were inspired by conversations with her where she shared that even if she felt like "people" were trying to set boundaries & limits on her that the only ones that defined her were her own.  I really like that even at the age when we struggle to find out who we are she had the confidence to stand up & be herself.

Challenge Topic #3: Have you ever looked back at your search history?  If not, you should take a look and see what your searches say about you!  Noell talks about Izzy’s search history in this post and how it is a little glimpse into their life right now: “Some tell the stories of activities we participate in, the food we eat, and the places we like to go. Others tell you about the music we’re listening to, the shows we’re watching, and the entertainment we enjoy”.  For this challenge, we would love to see a layout about your search history and the stories it tells.  This is a great chance to make a page about YOU for a change!

Challenge Topic #4:  Looking for a new quick and easy embellishment idea?  Try out Noell’s Bubble Edge.  I love the alley between the photos and the bubble edge-not something you typically see when working with circular embellishments.  For this challenge, create a layout with a Bubble Edge embellishment.

Post your creations here (by replying to this discussion) before midnight (pacific time) April 30th. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun and don't forget that you can enter up to three projects into the challenge!

Post your layouts to this thread using the photo attachment at the top instead of the attach file buttons below your comment box.  It makes it easier for everyone to see your work without clicking on links

This layout was inspired by Noel's bubbles. I used circles of patterned paper to create a repetition. The circles help to portray the fun of the day. The circles repeating across the bottom of the page also grounds all the photos. Heidi P.

Super page - the circles are so perfect on this page.  I love the casual placement of photos they really reminded me of a bunch of kids just bobbing around in the pool.  Thanks for entering your lovely page
Really nice page. Like the circle boarder. Fun!

#1 - Repetetion

So what I repeated here was the craft paper, pink, & punches. Even though I did use a lot of detail to embellish this page I felt keeping the color understated made the black & white picture from her hospital bassinet the star of the page.

I love using plain craft card stock so I decided to make a variety of different size boarders with two different punches. I laid them different directions, overlapping them in the corner when they met. Before I adhered them to the page I decided they seemed a little flat so I inked the edges pink. Since I brought pink into the page I decided to add some hand stitching to completely frame in the picture without actually having to mat it. The name was cut on my cricut, inked, and put on with pop dots. Then I added a journalling stamp for a place to write birth information, short & simple.  I really liked it but felt I needed something else, while looking through my things I came across some silk flower. A few snips later and the gerber daisy was glued in place. Yes the flower is big and pretty bright, but I felt the thread next to it brought it together. The daisy almost punctuates the picture.

When I finished this one I made a page that faced the opposite way for my other daughter and used lavender instead of pink.

Such adorable photos of your newborns.  I love the stitching.  The single flowers make a colorful pop against the kraft paper.  Thanks for playing along with us & entering your work
Sweetness. Beautiful photos.
I used my scraps to make the bubble edge for Challenge number 4.
this is just so adorable & you made me smile.  Your elements are so thoughtfully placed and create the motion your son exhibits in the photos.  Great job & thanks for playing along
This is stinkin' cute. Like the bubble boarder.
Challenge #2--I experimented with white space on this LO--trying to keep the photos in two separate groups to tell different parts of the story.
Awesome job creating a great looking newborn page.  It has just the right amount of baby theme elements without overdoing it (which is easy to do).  This is the perfect time for using the banner for your title since it is a total celebration.
Lovely LO. Like the banner.
