The Crop Circle

The Paperclipping Community of Scrapbookers

It was great to see so many entries to the July challenges and we can't wait to see what you come up with for August.

With summer in full swing we're all enjoying the outdoors and making the memories.  We hope these easy challenges will help you get some of those photos scrapped.

Please only submit new layouts that have not been submitted to prior challenges.

Challenge 1 - Repurpose your Old Items.
Blog post July 19th - Repurpose Your Old Items.  Update/Repurpose your older scrapbooking items.  Do you have items in your stash that you are not so crazy about anymore or used them so much that you are tired of them... change them up a bit and make them work in a project.  It's up to you how you change them up or what you use.  Some suggestions:  sprays to change color, layer with other items, pull embellishments apart & use part, mix old with new, etc.

Challenge 2 - Scrap your multi-photo page using Flexible Template.
Blog post July 5th  - 4 Ways to Embellish a Collage Template.  If you've done challenges with us before you are familiar with the Flexible Collage Template - the Paperclipping substitute for a sketch.  It's a versatile go to format that is an easy way to get photos scrapped.  Noell shared several different ways to embellish this template depending on how many photos used and topics.  Use the flexible template format for your multi photo page & share your thought process how you embellished it.

Challenge 3 - Choosing Your Colors
based on Paperclipping Roundtable 27 Nothing Wrong With Plain old Green episode.  The gals discussed how they choose a color scheme when scrapping their photos and their favorite colors to use in layouts.  Color is a powerful tool in creating a layout.  It can set the tone of a page to help tell the story, enhance your photo by toning down any color flaws, make the photo pop on your page, etc.  So for this color based challenge share your thought process why you chose the colors in your layout.

Challenge 4 - Let's Get Artsy
Paperclipping Live July 13, 2010 Art Journals.  This is a great episode where Jackie & Reenie share how to make an art journal.  Either share a page in an actual art journal you are creating or use some of the "artsy" techniques on your layout.  So get out your paints, inks, stamps, fibers, etc and have fun getting creative on your pages.

Post your creations here (by replying to this discussion) before midnight (pacific time) August 31st.  All are welcome to join in the fun.  We can't wait to see your creations.  Max 3 entries per person.

And don't forget to tell all your friends to join in too!! ♥

Join us for Paperclipping's monthly scrapbook challenge. Check it out here --> PC Challenge

The winner this month will not only be showcased by Noell on the Paperclipping Blog, but will also be featured on two of the judges' websites, Crafty Suz (Suz Gray) and Hungry Heffy Crafts (Lesley Oman).  So what a great way to show off your talent to the world! What are you waiting for, it’s time to get scrappin'!

Here are a couple of my examples to inspire you....

Challenge 2 - Flexible Template
I love this format for mulit photos.  I'm one of those people that if I use a sketch I take great liberty with it otherwise it limits my creativity.  The template is easier for me to use.

I kept the embellishing simple using the buttons as an element to guide the eye around my page in a visual triangle.

Challenge 3 - Color Choice
I loved the greens in these old photos of my sister's baptism back in the 60's.  I chose papers and embellishments that enhanced those green tones.  Even the punched golden butterflies enhanced without distracting from the photos.

Ok now get to work.  Post your layouts to this thread using the photo attachment at the top instead of the attach file buttons below your comment box.  It makes it easier for everyone to see your work without clicking on links.

Let Lesley, Kristyn or me know if you have any questions.  If you are new there is a rules thread you can look at http://people.paperclipping.com/group/monthlychallenge/forum/topics...

oh, great challenges this month! can't wait to get started on a few of these :)

Love art journal so when the guests did one I was inspired as well, this one is done with toilet rolls as pages and paper towels that we recycled from the paints from the journal
You can see more pages of this journals here.
Such a cool project. You sure made "trash" into something super fantastic Jana
Beautiful, Jana. I've just made a journal with my paper towels as well, but in a very different way. I love yours!
It's been awhile since I have submitted anything but I was challenged by color selection in a mini book I just completed for cousin's 1st wedding anniversary. The wedding was red, white and blue not on the 4th of July. It was an August, beach themed wedding. Red and blue, are tricky to put together but I wanted to make sure I included red and blue on all the pages even if it was a small accent. I really wanted to honor their color choices without making the album seem busy or tacky. The red papers are from MME's Lush Line and the Blue Papers are from the wedding series in Stampin Up. I am really please with how it all turned out. Here are 3 pages of book. If you want to see the entire album, check out my blog

Ok so I decided to enter 3 of the pages into the color challenge. They might fit into the flex template too b/c I tried to keep a uniform look by using 2 different templates.

Great collection of pages...I'm sure going to check out the rest of the mini on your blog. You did a great job with the color scheme. It sure is non traditional but works well for these photos. Thanks for entering & hope you join in for September challenges too

Challenge 3 Choosing colors: I worked with several different patterned papers that brought out the teal color in the left hand page tower but ended up making the page on the right pink to bring out the pink in the photo. I thought that tearing the blue page and adding it to the right side made the pages fit together.
Oh! Just thought I would add that the Title means....'30 Years ago we came to Turkey!'
Guess I should make that Istanbul ;-)
the colors bring out the best in the photos for sure. Nice design. Thanks for entering & I hope join us for September challenge too - can't wait to see more of your creations
This is for Challenge 3 (Choosing Your Colors): I've never posted for a challenge before, so I hope I did it right!

For this page, I started with some recent pictures of my daughter. Her favorite colors this summer have been bright orange and pink, so most of the pictures had her wearing those colors and I wanted to represent her tastes right now. I chose this kit (it's a digital layout, and I wanted to stick to mostly one kit) with these bright colors and especially orange and pink. I really liked the aqua in the kit as a contrast to the orange and pink (I don't use a color wheel, but maybe these are complimentary?) and I had the one picture of my daughter wearing a color similar to it, so I chose those three colors as my palette. I knew the page would be really busy (this was also created for a scraplift challenge at The Digichick, and the page I was "lifting" was busy), so I wanted the main background to be white to give your eye a place to rest after looking at all those elements. I think it's a bright, fun page that really fits my daughter's personality and tastes "right now!"

Lisa
I love your page Lisa! It is so happy and bright. I love how the colors fit with your daughters clothing choices and how the whole page says something about her right now!
