The Crop Circle

The Paperclipping Community of Scrapbookers

Welcome to 2011!!  We are excited to ring in the New Year with a new Paperclipping Monthly Challenge.  So, let’s get those creative juices flowing!  Get out the paper and glue, power up Photoshop, and let’s tell our stories!

Remember: Please only submit new layouts that have not been submitted for prior challenges.

Challenge Topic #1: Flexible Template
I don’t know about you, but I LOVE Noell’s flexible templates.  They are wonderful starting points for all types of layouts.  So, you can imagine how thrilled I was to see her latest – The Train Station Flexible Template.  I couldn't wait to try it out for my next layout!  For this challenge, use the Train Station Flexible Template to create a single or double page layout.  Please explain your thought process in choosing between the stationary and moving trains options.

Challenge Topic #2:  L Frame
Noell talks about the impact of incorporating an L Frame into your layout in this episode of Paperclipping.  For this challenge, incorporate an L-Frame into your layout or minibook project.

Challenge Topic #3:  Dominance/Photo Groupings
Noell provided a great breakdown of the dominance principle of design in this tutorial.  I know I always struggle with layouts with multiple photos and I think this principle is a perfect solution for keeping a layout organized while moving the viewers eye easily through the story.  For this challenge, we would like to see a layout implementing the dominance principle for your photo groupings.  Please explain why you chose to highlight certain photos and how implementing the principle helps to tell the story.
Challenge Topic #4:  Using your Scraps
I'm sure we all have more scraps than we care to admit!  Check out this tutorial for some scrap maintenance tips and design ideas for utilizing more of your scraps on your new layouts.  Then pull out those scraps and get to work.  Share with us a layout created with at least 3 "scrap elements" or where at least 30% of your layout is made from your scrap pile.  If possible, we'd love to see a picture of your scraps before they make it to your layout.
EDITED TO ADD:
Challenge Topic #5: Scrap your Job
In this http://www.paperclipping.com/2010/12/01/prt047-scrapbook-the-commut...) Paperclipping Roundtable episode, the panelists talk about a variety of inspiring ways to scrapbook about your work or career - a topic that can consume many hours of our day, but can sometimes get overlooked when it comes to scrapbooking. For this challenge, create a layout or project that focuses on your work or career in some way, or maybe even the people that you work with.

Post your creations here (by replying to this discussion) before midnight (pacific time) January 31st.  All are welcome to join in the fun.  We can't wait to see your creations.  Max 3 entries per person.

Help us spread the word

And don't forget to tell all your friends to join in too!! ♥

I'm thinking maybe this isn't the right place to post them, I'll try the gallery.  Sorry if this was the wrong place!

Hi Katie!  If you are submitting layouts for the challenge, then you are in the right place and they are posted correctly.  However, if you are entering these to be considered, we would really like to hear a little about your design process and your thoughts on the layouts.

Thanks!

So many goodies layered on this page really creates the wow factor.  Love all the journaling.

Thanks for entering the monthly challenge.  We love seeing everyone's work, hearing the stories behind the layout, & knowing the thought process used to create the project

LOVE this one, too!
I love the color & design Katie.  The stamping really adds a lot of interest & guides the eye around the page

This is so cute! LOVE the smile-o-meter!
