The Paperclipping Community of Scrapbookers
Another month flies by and lands us in May, so its challenge time again. So crack out those papers and scissors and get started!
Remember your layout / project only needs to fall into one of these categories (but can of course fall into multiple if you wish), and it is best if you talk us through some of your creative choices. This way we get to see how you have used your design skills to create your own personal masterpiece. This helps all our other members learn from your expertise, and will also help you understand more about the way you scrapbook - which of course helps with your future projects.
1. Last week, millions of people watched the Royal Wedding, were you one of them? There is so much going on in the world that is becoming part of history, and Noell talks about ways to capture these historical moments with scrapbooking in this post. For this challenge we want to see your pages that reflect a world historical moment, whether celebrating a happy event, rejoicing in good news, reactions to a real life story, or documenting a disaster.
2. Work those embellishments! Noell teaches us A LOT about embellishments and how we can use them to balance our layouts, to lead the eye, and how to use them to unify different elements on your page. Show us a layout which demonstrates your understanding of these design principals and tell us all about your thought process. Be sure to check out the exceptionally informative videos on this post and this post to help you understand how to work those embellishments in the best way possible! (members only videos)
4. When was the last time you made a layout about yourself? Noell is a fantastic inspiration to us all when it comes to self-scrapping (see some of her layouts inthis post). Many of us are so used to capturing moments of our children or other loved ones, but I think it is important for us to take centre stage every once in a while. For this layout, tell us the story of you at this moment.
5. Close your eyes. Think of a playground swing set and slide and tell me, are they metal or plastic? Just the same as Noell explains in this layout entitled 'slides & swingsets', for me they are still chunky metal structures (except in Northern Ireland we didn't have the issue of boiling hot metal in the summer, our problem was freezer burn in the autumn, winter and spring!) For this challenge we want you to focus on contrasting two or more time periods - 'then' and 'now'.

My ode to Mespila (as they are known here in Cyprus) or as my research taught me Loquats. LOVE them. This is our first introduction to them and we can not get enough.
The LO design - (sorry about the drop shadows - took picture in high sun)
The yellow flower under the word Mespila I used to balance the color from the pictures of the fruit.
The black Right Now is there to balance the large chunk of journaling and then to complete the triangle I stamped the date in black ink.
The green I used to diagonally bring the eye from the green apple in the top photo to the 'insights' chipboard piece to the title Mespila.
The bits of white from the the chipboard pieces are there to counter the large white journaling piece.
here's my layout that I made about making homemade bread. I couldn't help but scrap these pics, because they were hillarious! I always make bread from scratch, but after I had my third baby, I was making bread, and I tried to do too many loaves in my mixer and it overheated and turned off...then my baby needed me and I got sidetracked...when I came back to the mixer, the dough had risen over the bowl! lol
I traced a scallopy frame out of cardboard, and cut it out with a craft knife, then painted it with Tim Holtz crackle paint. The title was die cut from a sizzix alphabet, then I covered the letters with glossy accents. I cut out one of the scallop borders from tin foil to mimic the stainless steel of the mixer bowl.
