The Crop Circle

The Paperclipping Community of Scrapbookers

Can you believe its September already? It's crazy how the summer has flown by, and here in the UK we have already said our good byes to the sunshine and it's getting cooler each day.

But with a new month, means a new challenge, and we have a great selection of challenge topics to choose from this month. Lets jump right in!!

Please only submit new layouts that have not been submitted to prior challenges.

1. In this tutorial Noell shared with us a great method which she uses in order to make her mini books in an more streamlined manner. We loved seeing her mini book pages, and we want to see yours too! For this challenge, show us one of your mini books and explain your creative process.

2. Noell teaches us about using a Wide Angled photos to capture moods in this post, and blew us away with some fantastic photographs of her natural surroundings. For this challenge topic, focus on nature, scenery or your surroundings.

3.  I wish I was as organised as Trinity, who Noell describes as  'The Queen of Organised'. For this topic, share with us a layout or project which focuses on the theme of Organisation.

4. In this layout entitled 'Beautiful You', we learn a lot about Trinity and her personality traits, and when making layouts about others, a great topic to focus on is personality traits. But for this challenge topic we want to see what makes you you! What are your personality traits? Show us on a layout or project.

5. I love the clean and simple design of this 'Everyday Summer' album, but most of all I love the way that this book documents a normal, usual day. For this challenge, stop and think about the everyday things in your life, and show us a project which focuses on this topic.

6. Both Noell and the other PC Roundtable panelists speak about using memorabilia and ephemera on your scrapbook pages, and give great examples of what types of items you can use. For this topic, incorporate memorabilia into your page or project, for example: Kid's drawings, cinema tickets....

7. This layout entitled 'Opposite set of genes' speaks about the differences between Trinity and Blake. For this topic focus on Opposites or highlighting differences.

Post your creations here (by replying to this discussion) before midnight (pacific time) September 30th.  All are welcome to join in the fun.  We can't wait to see your creations.  Max 3 entries per person.

And don't forget to tell all your friends to join in too!! ♥

The winner this month will not only be showcased by Noell on the Paperclipping Blog, but will also be featured on two of the judges' websites, Crafty Suz (Suz Gray) and Hungry Heffy Crafts (Lesley Oman).  So what a great way to show off your talent to the world! What are you waiting for, it’s time to get scrappin'!

Here are a couple of my examples to inspire you....

1. Mini Book
This mini book is a collection of my memories of my Nannie who passed away two years ago. Because of the topic choice, I wanted a clean and simple look, so each of my pages take the same design format. I printed the pages with the relevant photos, next printed all the text pages and then added the pattern paper.

2. Nature /Surroundings.

This layout captures a familiar part of a local beach where I grew up. This beach is full of many childhood memories which all come flooding back with a single glance.

Ok now go get crafting!  Post your layouts to this thread using the photo attachment at the top instead of the attach file buttons below your comment box.  It makes it easier for everyone to see your work without clicking on links.

Let Suz, Kristyn or me know if you have any questions.  If you are new there is a rules thread you can look at http://people.paperclipping.com/group/monthlychallenge/forum/topics...

Hello Everyone. Great Challenges. I have chosen to 2, natural surroundings and 3, use of ephemera. I was inspired by Noell's Self Expression layout and used that sketch to lay out photos of a tourist trip I took on Saturday here in NYC. I'm from NY but have never done a Circle Line Cruise around the city before now. It's a 2 page layout, but the white page focuses on challenge 2, photographing my natural surroundings and the 2nd page uses ephemera including my parking stub and my ticket stub to get on the sight seeing cruise. I stamped LOVE on the parking stub since I LOVE NY is such a common expression. I really enjoyed doing this challenge. I love living in NYC and with September 11th right around the corner, my appreciation for my surroundings and the importance of remembering were that much more important.

Page 1

There isn't a lot of journaling on this page b/c I really wanted to focus on my natural surroundings. I cut out some words and put them over the Statue of Liberty. It says Liberty and Justice. I really wanted the photos to be the journaling.

Page 2

At first, page 2 was an after thought. I thought I would just enter the white page into the challenge. But I didn't feel satisfied with just one page. I had a couple more photos and my ephemera and I needed room for my journaling, which was important to me in this layout.

The journaling tag in the middle reads: The Touristy Thing: I had to go on a Circle Line trip for work. It was a retention event. it was a beautiful day even with the fear of Hurricane Earl. I lived in NYC my entire life and never did a tour of the city.

The journaling tag on the bottom right corner reads: How I love thee, let me count the ways
1. The Brooklyn Bridge - how else would I get home?
2. The Empire State Building - it is the empire state after all.
3. The Statue of Liberty - need I say more?
4. South Street Seaport - great shopping; great food; great vibe.
5. Battery Park City/Wall Street/Ground Zero
As 9-11 approaches I find myself appreciating my home town more and more. Love or hate it, everyone wants a piece of it. "Concrete jungle where dreams are made of - NY NY NY......

Finally, I journaled around the edge of the paper as a form of hidden journaling. It's not so easy to read unless you focus and look closely. But the journaling reads: I really, really didn't want to go on this trip. But my hands were tied. All things considered it was a nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I love NY and I had never been on one of these tourist trap cruises. The tour guide was knowledgable and I did manage to learn a few new things about my hometown. Always a plus. I dedicate this page to the memory of 9-11 victims!

Fantastic layouts Rosann!
Lots of great photos. The second page really balances out the first and goes well side by side as a 2 pager. I like all the tickets you saved and used on the layout. Thanks so much for playing along with us. Keep those creative juices flowing
I really like all of these photographs -- totally makes me want to visit while giving me a sense of NY, too. Cool!
i love these pages, and a fantastic choice to go with a grid to show off those great photos. you are definitely making me want to go to NY more and more. :0)
The balance on the first (white) page is wonderful! Such a lovely assymetrical design with the white space at the upper-left balancing the heavy space at the right. You made it your own -- I didn't even recognize it as being inspired by my Self Expression layout until I read your description. It's a lovely collage. I like that you focused on the photos.

I also love the use of your own ephemera and that you weren't afraid to alter it with the LOVE stamp!
These are some great topics to really spark creativity....

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with
I chose to go with #2, as well. Us in nature -- Bryce Canyon. WOW! What a place. If you're looking for a beautiful place to hike, learn some geology, and go nuts with a camera, this is the place!
Please educate the geographically challenged. Where is Bryce Canyon? It's gorgeous. REminds me of the Grand Canyon or is this part of that?
Hi Rosann!

Bryce is in Utah not far from Grand Canyon -- but a canyon unto itself. Here's some info: http://www.nps.gov/brca/

It is so amazing (well, I guess I said that already, heh-heh). I didn't know about it either until my sister-in-law shared about it with me -- even then, I had no idea what to expect. It's very close to Zion NP, too.

=) Liz
loving the layout, the background is lovely and rustic - reminds me of those Indiana Jones movies, and Bryce Canyon looks like it could hold a few adventures of its own. Lovely the way the photo is faded behind the journaling. great work! :0)
Thanks Lesley -- you know, it hadn't occurred to me about the paper and Indiana Jones connection. I LOVE THAT! Thanks for your perspective!

Also, the paper has been tinted to suite my (evil?) purposes. Originally, it was brown-green color. It's beautiful that way, too. It is from ScrapArtist.com (by Roby England). It's part of a genealogy/family tree set. Just love it.

Thanks again!

=) Liz
fantastic page. I love the over sized photo and translucent journaling area. The earthy colors are perfect. Thanks for joining in the challenge
